Entrepreneur’s Day in Ukraine: “From Resilience to Growth.” The International Chamber of Commerce Ukraine brought together business and government leaders

On September 4, the International Chamber of Commerce Ukraine (ICC Ukraine) held an official reception dedicated to Entrepreneur’s Day in Ukraine, the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, and the 28th anniversary of ICC Ukraine’s activities. The event, held under the motto “Ukrainian Business. Partnership. Future,” brought together leaders of Ukrainian business, government officials, diplomats, and leading academics on one platform. The event focused not only on the results of operating under martial law, but also on developing a common strategy for post-war recovery and the further development of the Ukrainian economy.

The event traditionally began with a minute of silence. Those present honored the memory, courage, and heroic deeds of the soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine, as well as all civilians who were killed as a result of the armed aggression by the russian federation.

The official part of the reception was opened by Volodymyr Shchelkunov, Chair of ICC Ukraine. In his address, he emphasized the fundamental role of Ukrainian business as one of the pillars of the state during its most difficult challenges.

Oleksii Kozhanov, Secretary General of ICC Ukraine, expressed his deep gratitude to the business community for its tireless daily work, emphasizing that “the resilience of each individual enterprise under martial law directly contributes to the country’s domestic and international economic potential.”

Vasyl Nevidomyi, Secretary of the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine, also emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation between the two institutions.

A landmark part of the event was a greeting from John Denton, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce, who emphasized Ukraine’s integration into the global ICC business community. A pleasant surprise was that Denton addressed the guests in the hall in Ukrainian, saying: “Slava Ukraini!”

The key part of the event was a forum featuring two panel discussions. The first was titled “Competitiveness of Ukrainian Business: Policy, Regulation and Human Capital.” The discussion brought together Nataliia Budchyk, First Deputy Head of the State Regulatory Service of Ukraine; Bohdan Tyrus, representative of the Office of the President of Ukraine; and Denys Yastreb, Director General of the National Association of Insurers of Ukraine. The speakers analyzed regulatory changes having the greatest impact on the market and outlined key areas of interaction between the state and business. Particular attention was paid to the development of the insurance market as an instrument of investment security, including mechanisms for insuring war-related and investment risks capable of attracting capital for the country’s recovery.

The topic of the second panel, “Business That Creates the Future of Ukraine,” sounded like a manifesto of modern Ukrainian entrepreneurship. Representatives of leading companies shared their vision: Andrii Lukasevych (“Philip Morris Ukraine”), Dmytro Tilipskyi (EQUITY Law Firm), and Lesia Chervinska (Ukrainian Helicopters airline). The speakers discussed the evolution of responsible business during wartime and its contribution to supporting Ukraine’s defenders and their families. Particular attention was also given to pressing issues such as providing legal guarantees for investment protection, reducing operational risks, and ensuring the sustainable functioning of the economy as a whole, which became the subject of active discussion among the guests in the hall.

An important part of the event was the recognition of individuals and companies that continue to contribute to Ukraine’s development. Awards and letters of appreciation were presented to representatives of the business community, public sector, academia, professional associations, as well as outstanding students.

For ICC Ukraine, the reception was not only a ceremonial event dedicated to Entrepreneur’s Day in Ukraine, but also a platform for direct dialogue between those whose actions determine the country’s economic resilience and recovery.

Today, Ukrainian business has demonstrated that it is capable of operating under conditions that seemed impossible just a few years ago. The next task is to transform this resilience into development, new investment, and stronger positions for Ukraine in international markets.

The official part of the reception concluded with networking among representatives of the business community, government institutions, partner organizations, and the diplomatic corps.
